Mark Haines about the Turbo-Back system for Lotus Elan M100
Just received my exhaust system from Bill Luton this week... ...All I can say is 'WOW'.
Greatly improved throttle response from bottom to top and a quite pleasing exhaust note. Not
boy racer ear splitting overkill, but a nice throaty 'sports car' sound. Not deafening going down
the freeway, but you will notice it when you kick in the turbo. The car really launches when
the turbo comes on and comes up to the red line really quickly. I swear that if the engine didn't
have a cut off I would have blown it up the first time I floored it. It hits the red line so much
faster that I have had to relearn my shift timing. My car is stock, I can only say that those of
you that have aftermarket engine enhancements should really benefit from this item. The owner
of the local shop that installed it said when he saw the system, 'man this baby is really gonna
flow'. The overall fit and quality of workmanship are really first class. The bends in the pipe are
really smooth, the welds are pretty, and the heavy gauge pipe should last a really long time.
The oversized pipe has to flow at least twice the volume of the stock piece of garbage that Lotus
supplied (I know they were constrained by price point considerations). I've owned my car for
just over two years... ...Perhaps there are other systems out there now but they are going to
have to go a long way to beat this exhaust system in my humble opinion. Thank you Bill, for
building such a great product for my baby.
Doug Abbott from Lotus Elan Central Dot Com about the Turbo-Back system for Lotus Elan M100
Well the sun shone upon me and I got out of work early today. I decided to try to get the exhaust put on instead of doing it
myself. I went to the place that put on my downpipe last year and they were able to get the system on.
I will definitely tell you that I just drove the car home about 2 miles and, boy did I notice a difference!!!!!!!!
I think I noticed a definite better spool time on the turbo; not sure if it is spiking but think it isn't; thought I'd
be hitting the boost cut-off but did not yet on the old MBC setting!! The sound is nice---a bit quieter than I thought but that is
good! It is quieter than when my downpipe broke and I was hoping it would not be that loud and it is not.
Matt Welsh about the Turbo-Back system for Lotus Elan M100
Isuzuperformance exhaust was waiting on my doorstep yesterday & I installed it last night.
The exhaust is a bit louder than stock, but it works. The boost gauge jumps right up, even
when you're in a gear that's too high, that's a big difference from the stock exhaust.
That header did the old trick. The power I have between 3500 and
5000 RPM is amazing. At 3500 it sounds like there is a beast be unleashed
from its cage and then the car just takes off like it has never has before.
I am what you call a satisfied customer.
Steve Beatty about the Header for Storm SOHC
Stan's headers cost a bit more than the competition... ...you get what you pay for.
Stan's attention to detail shows in all aspects of this Tri-Y Geo Storm header -
the welds, flange, flex joint, the choice of two locations to install the O2
sensor . . . all of it. To keep my new header looking like new I opted
for Performance Coating's Ceramic Finish.
Jason Peterson about the 1985-89 I-Mark/Spectrum Cat-Back Exhaust and
1989 I-Mark RS Header
LOOKS AND SOUND GREAT ! !
CAN'T WAIT TO RACE NEXT WEEK. DEFINATELY A BIG POWER INCREASE.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING.
...I can tell a noticeable difference in power increase...
...it was a pain in the rump to remove the stock manifold, but it was fairly
easy to put on the stans header.
Well, I am pleased with the product and I thank you again for being the
distributor and all the help you've given me.
...my brothers an engineer and he commented to me the craftsmanship is great.
Thanks for being so easy to deal with, I will and would recommend
your company with no reservations to my friends.
Well I had both (RK Sport and Stan's) and the RK header was garbage as far as I am concerned.
If it came with a collector that wasn't so small maybe it would be better. With my RK
header and ehaust I ran a best of 15.6 with the new header and exhaust both Stan's I ran
a 14.9.
I have recently purchased a Stan's header from your company. I must say WOW. What a great
piece. I purchased this header to replace the RKSport one i already had on the car, which
leaked so badly there was more noise from the front of my car than the rear. The Stan's
header is great, no leaks at all.
...It has made the powerband much smoother and wider. It seems to have put back the mid
range torque the RK lost. i will have no problems recommending this product to the others
in my club. Thanks for selling a truly great product.
Its great. There is a night and day difference between the Stan's and the RK header I had
before it.
Don Grubbs about the 1991 Impulse RS Turbo Downpipe
I decided to first try it with the
downpipe alone for those not wishing to get rid of the pre-cat. Despite
what the boost gauge reads, the turbo begins to spool at 2500 rpm which
is earlier. You can now hear it much more distinctly. There is also a
very pleasing exhaust growl. Seat of the pants feeling is more hp. I'll
know how much tomorrow. I did some base readings with Gtech today. 148
hp which is what I usually get...
...I did some testing on the downpipe today. I made two runs with the Gtech.
Base was 148. First run was 152. Second
was 156. I'd take an average of 154. Not bad for just the pipe. Next is
the precat eliminator.
Spool up time is much better too...
...Finally got the precat eliminator on.
It seems to have more midrange power and quicker spool up. Also, some of
the low boost surging has gone...
...Either my drag racing skills are getting better or this downpipe is
better than expected. Today, with the entire downpipe assembly installed
the hp from G-tech came up at 164 and 165 on two runs. Granted, it was
25 - 30 degrees colder outside but still. My base was 148 and now 165?
That's quite an increase. The car definitely runs better and
stronger with the pipe. Sounds better too.
Soren Rounds about the 1985-89 Impulse Turbo Downpipe
Well I recently acquired a nice 2.5" turbo downpipe for my 1989 Impulse.
It fit perfectly...
The downpipe looks like it belongs on a turbo
diesel truck; it is almost sick to have that pencil-thin stock exhaust
bolted up behind it.
The exhaust note may be a little different, but not really noticeably.
The turbo sounds a little different now, more of a whistle than a whine...
...Now I have had a chance to autocross the thing last weekend, and then
yesterday I took my mountain bike out to the woods which required an
hour-long drive through mixed country highway/winding road (he he, autocross
tires still on.
Low end torque is not noticeably enhanced, but
definitely not compromised. The sound of the turbo spooling is actually a
lot louder even before I get into any boost, but more of a hiss/whistling
than the whine I had before. Boost also comes up more quickly, especially
in higher gears. I can almost peg the boost in first, second comes to full
boost a couple hundred RPM sooner, and I can get full boost at 2000 RPM in
fifth (no I don't think the car likes it but I used to have to be at least
3500 RPM for full boost in fifth). As far as power increases (as opposed to
moving the power along the RPM range by faster spool-up), I think once you
hit third gear it is really quite a bit faster than before. Fourth gear is
not near as doggy as before (used to be my worst gear) and fifth, well, I
have to be careful when passing or I am double the speed limit within
seconds.
I still expect all hell to break loose once I remove the cork by getting
the rest of the Stan's exhaust system (the stock exhaust pipe is actually
crunched down to about 1.5" where it goes over a little brace near the
tranny ).
Soren Rounds about the 1983-89 Impulse Cat-Back Exhaust System
Well I got the cat-back part of the Stan's exhaust system today (to
supplement the downpipe I already have). Removal of the old
system/installation of the new took about 1 hour.
I can't yet say much about performance increases; I think most will come
at high RPMs and wide-open throttle, which I rarely hit unless I am on the
highway. Around town it really is negligible compared to the downpipe
(which really decreased low RPM turbo lag). Amazingly, the sound is quieter
at low RPMs than my pencil-pipe stock exhaust with Flowmaster was.
My compliments to the chef on the ease of installation. When I put the
Flowmaster onto my stock exhaust, I spent about 1 1/2 hour longer diddling
with getting it placed right than the time it took to bolt on both the
downpipe and cat-back pieces from Stan's.
Jonathan Freeman about the 1990-93 FWD Impulse/Storm/Stylus Cat-Back Exhaust
The guys at Stan's have put some great work into the
manufacturing of this system and know their stuff. Stan won't slack on
quality just to get the job done fast or cheaper, a major plus for anyone
who's replaced a replacement aftermarket part!
I started it up and at idle you can almost tell no difference in the engine
noise (1,000 rpm). This was good because I've heard of different systems
causing the storm to backfire and hiccup because of lack of backpressure @
idle.
We revved it a few times in the shop and it's sound is magical! No whiny
raspy honda here, this makes a great authoritative rumble right off the
1,500 rpm point and lets up around full power (5,800-6,000rpm on SOHC).
As for the performance increase, this mod gets my vote for #2 after the K&N
and Baffles upgrade.
I never really
noticed the power until I've started using it. It's like it's made
the storm open up it's top end! I went from 60-105 with a V8 blazer
(*nice*) trying to push me. He ended up slowly fading back all the way up
to 105.
Patrick Rael about the 1990-93 FWD Impulse/Storm/Stylus Cat-Back Exhaust
I had my exhaust installed at Dual Tone Exhaust in Las Cruces, New
Mexico. It is 2 hour away from where I live in Silver City. They do
very good work there. I just wanted to tell you that I am very
pleased with the results. The car feels a second faster.
Brent Boucher about the 1990-93 FWD Impulse/Storm/Stylus Cat-Back Exhaust
I got my Cat-Back about two weeks ago and I installed it the next
day. My old exhaust system was
was already off so it took about 20 min to install it. I just want to say
that I really like it and has a really cool sound, but not that loud
either. The service was incredible you answered all my questions
and the Cat-Back arrived really quick. You can bet I will be purchasing
more stuff from Bill's.
James Babcock about the 1990-93 FWD Impulse/Storm/Stylus Cat-Back Exhaust
I received the exhaust on Thursday and was able to get it installed
Friday night. I was thrilled with the sound. Very mean at throttle, and
it seems a bit peppier than before (It could be 'cuz I'm revving it a
little higher to get that cool sound). Anyway, thanx allot.
Justin Derendal about the 1990-93 FWD Impulse/Storm/Stylus Two Muffler
Cat-Back Exhaust
I finally got to race a civic vtec with intake 5 spd tonight. I just thought
i'd let you know i smoked his ass 2 times. It was so great. I dont know
what the hell is with that Stan's exhaust but it did a shitload for the power in my
base model Storm. The guy was like you cheated. I'm like look you own a
civic buddy, deal with it. Oh my gosh he got so pissed. Now i can go get my
devoured a honda sticker. lol Thanks again.
Jason Peterson about the 1985-89 I-Mark/Spectrum Cat-Back Exhaust and
1989 I-Mark RS Header
LOOKS AND SOUND GREAT ! !
CAN'T WAIT TO RACE NEXT WEEK. DEFINATELY A BIG POWER INCREASE.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING.
...everything lined up very good.
I personally like the sound, very deep.
Cruising, doesn't make the cabin louder which is very good. Overall, I am happy with this
sytem.
The system was a piece of cake to put on...
From what I've heard and felt (through my butt dyno) this is the system to get.
It is nice and deep sounding at low and midrange rpm's, and at higher rpm's it is
almost quieter then before.
It is not at all tinny sounding, and wipes a smile across my face everytime I drive my
car.
I really like it...
Its not loud at all until you punch it, then it starts to get loud. But it has a
nice tone to it. and for the price, as performance goes, you can't beat it.
i love my system, never had a problem at all with anything about it...and a catback
system for only 300 is a great deal....especially one thats outperforms all ther cat
backs for our cars.
...it is awesome as it was packed well and was solid in the box with indiviual wraping
and NO movement in the box. EVERY Company should be like this...
Hey I just put on the cat-back and I think it was a good deal. It is a MILLION times
quieter than what I had (basically dual 2 1/4 with straight thru pipes). I did notice
right away MUCH more Torque down low and the fitment was good...
Anyone who has heard my car in the past could tell you that it was SO loud I could be
heard up to TWO blocks away so to ME this was money well spent.
Well I had both (RK Sport and Stan's) and the RK header was garbage as far as I am concerned.
If it came with a collector that wasn't so small maybe it would be better. With my RK
header and ehaust I ran a best of 15.6 with the new header and exhaust both Stan's I ran
a 14.9.
well, i just got home from picking up the car with stans cat-back on it. the sound is nice.
better than i expected, quiet at highway speeds and rpm. no droning at all.
it isn't a high pitched buzzing sound. it is a deeper sound.
I came home from work tonight, and there was my exhaust sitting on my front porch. All
I can say is WOW The install took me about 2 hours, with the back end of my car jacked
up on jackstands. The hardest part was getting my old exhaust off. I had to cut it off,
cause it was welded all over the place. After I got that off, the bills only took me
about 30 minutes to get on. I love the sound, and I loved the performance gains...
...I am extreamly satisfied with the quality, construction, and performance of this
exhaust system.
As far as 4 bangers go, it has a relativly deep tone. It is NOT high and ricey like most
of them. There are really no bad RPM ranges, but my intake and motor mounts kinda drowned
the sound out in the higher revs. Thats the thing about this exhaust. For the most part,
it is quiet. Just a nice pleasing purr.
Once again though, I am EXTREAMLY please at the quality of this kit. Plus Bill was very
nice through the whole ordering process, and with all of the questions i had.
Received my exhaust today, and put it on during my lunch hour. The hardest part was
getting the old one off... ...Love the sound, barely noticeable at idle, and never
overly loud, which is what Iwanted. The craftsmanship of the product is top notch...
...Performance is pretty good too... ...I'm satisfied with it... ...Love the product
and thanks for the excellent service, I'll definitely be back for the header...
...Quality is excellent... ...Nice product, hardest thing was getting the old one off.
