Dave Jackson's DSP 1981 Isuzu I-Mark

Grassroots Motorsports Magazine

September/October 1994. P. 15.

The nice thing about DSP Solo II class is that almost anything can be competitive. Case in point: Dave Jackson's 1981 Isuzu I-Mark.

Since being infused with a healthy dose of bolt-on performance, this former grocery-getter has racked up an impressive list of victories, including the 1991, 1992, 1993 Northern California Sports Car Council championships (Dave predicts the trend will continue into 1994). He also took third place in 1993 points in his local SCCA region behind former national champion Bill Condrashoff and perennial front-runner Chris Cox.

To help the car move out of it's own way, the 1853cc engine was bored .030" over. The head was port matched, and a pair of SK 40mm sidedraft carbs were added. A custom-made header, 2 1/2-inch exhaust pipe and Walker muffler don't hurt, and a second adjustable Panhard rod was added to the rear suspension. Dave also uses 215/50-13 BFG tires on 13x8-inch Duralite rims.
